Students from Cornell University are hoping to generate gap funding for the daylong Oneida Square One World Flower Fest (OWFF), planned for Mother’s Day Weekend, Saturday, May 9. According to Jennifer Rowe, a Cornell student, “Our In Our Back Yard” (IOBY) campaign goal is to help the neighborhood raise just over $10,000 to launch a placemaking project that will make Oneida Square the place to be in Utica on May 9 and beyond.” To date, the City of Utica and a Rust to Green Utica team of community organizations and individuals have pledged over $14,000 in additional funding and in-kind donations to help showcase the Square for both residents and visitors.
Visitors to IOBY can donate to sponsor flower globes designed by area artists, decorative banners, flower planters, a community chalkboard, handmade street furniture, and much more. While the students have set an ambitious goal, they are confident that Uticans will rise to the challenge and pitch in to the IOBY fundraiser at https://www.ioby.org/project/one-world-flower-fest.
